History
Sri Dhakshina Mookambika Bhagavathi Shetram
Temples in which Sree chakra is mounted and worshipped are in fact very rare, especially in Kerala. But away from Trivandrum city at a distance of 12 Km, in a village area named Kulangarakonam at Machel, there nestles a temple with this speciality- Dhakshina Mookambika Bhagavathi Temple . Devoid of any visual extravaganza or superfluity, minor Mookambika temple avails you a rare experience of immense divinity and inordinate tranquillity. Mahamaya here dwells in its 3 revered incarnated forms- Mahakali, Mahalekshmi and Maha Saraswathi.
The legacy of this temple hails back to its ancient origins. From past 800 years, Melamon Madam is revering the deities here in thevarappura as their kudumba paradevatha(family goddess) One of the legacies associated with this temple is that the Bhagavathi arrived here with a Brahmin youth when he went for his 41 days of Mookambika bhajanam. Then onwards the bhagavathi was housed and worshiped. Later the thevarappura was demolished and the deity Bhagavathi was placed in the Sreekovil ceremoniously for the wellbeing of the public.
